The abandoned village of Kunlum recalls the great tragedy of the Balkarian people, who were forcibly evicted from their homes and deported to the steppes of Kazakhstan. After returning in 1957. No one began to settle in this place anymore.

Despite the ruined state, there is one attraction in Kyunlum that still stands tall and proud - the Abayev Tower. The Abayev Tower is a structure that was built in the 17th century and was once a symbol of wealth and prestige for the Abayev family that owned it. The tower was built of local stone and had a height of 23 meters. Today, the tower is still standing, but is in disrepair, with a crumbling facade and damaged walls.
