Actoprak is the most famous pass since ancient times, which allowed residents of the Chegem and Baksan gorges to communicate; an ancient trade route passed through it.

We find an indirect mention of him in Sheref ed-Din Yazdi, when he tells a story about campaigns to the fortresses of Kula and Taus: "Timur, again leaving the wagon train, moved from there to the fortress of Kula and Taus. They also belonged to the tribes of the inhabitants of Elbrus. The inhabitants there had fortresses and fortifications on the top of the mountain, and it was extremely difficult to get there due to their height, which was so great that the viewer's eye was confused and the cap fell off his head, especially the fortress of Tausa, which lay on the third ledge of the mountain, like a nest of a bird of prey."
